Find ‘Lower cast’ in MCQ controversial question in Periyar University
The Periyar University, located in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, has recently courted controversy after it asked students to identify social groups belonging to ‘lower caste.’ In a multiple choice question, students were asked to identify the ‘lower caste’ from four options.
“Which one of the lower caste belongs to Tamil Nadu?” the question read. The four options available were Mahars, Nadars, Ezhavas and Harjans.
The contentious question appeared in the MA first-year History paper on the subject ‘Freedom Movement in Tamil Nadu from 1880 CE to 1947 CE.’

After the question paper appeared on social media, it created a huge outrage from netizens. The university was slammed for asking such a question marking some caste as ‘lower’.

Noida 10 held for dumping foreigner 170 crore , fake call centre
The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested 10 people on charges of running fake call centres and duping several foreign nationals in the US, Canada, Lebanon and Britain to the tune of Rs 170 crore, in Noida Friday.
The accused have been identified as Karan Mohan, Vinod Singh, Dhruv Narang, Mayank Gogiya, Akshay Malik, Deepak Singh, Ahuja Paudwal, Akshay Sharma, Jayant Singh and Mukul Rawat, the police said. The accused were allegedly running a fake international call centre with at least 50 callers. The STF is reportedly tracking some other members of the gang.
A team comprising cyber police and Noida STF field unit raided an office located in Sector 59, Noida, and seized Rs 32,470 cash, 12 mobile phones, 76 desktop computers, 56 VoIP diallers, 37 credit/debit cards, four cars, and one motorcycle. The seized electronic items have been sent for forensic analysis.

In a significant order, the Kerala High Court has given permission to terminate a 24-week pregnancy of a minor rape victim and directed to constitute a medical team for conducting the procedure.
Kerala High Court judge Justice V G Arun, while considering the plea of a 15-year-old, said, “If the baby is alive at birth,” the hospital shall ensure that the baby is offered the best medical treatment. He also said if the petitioner was not willing to assume the responsibility of the baby, the state and its agencies shall assume full responsibility and offer medical support and facilities to the child.

Regional lower language should be promoted as proceedings at lower and high court
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday asserted that regional and local languages should be promoted in proceedings at lower and high courts.
The minister said mother tongue should not be considered lesser than English and asserted that he does not subscribe to the view that a lawyer should get more respect, cases, or fees only because he speaks more in English.
He also said that no court should be only for the privileged and the doors of justice should be open for all, equally.
“Arguments and judgment in Supreme Court happen in English. But our vision is that in high courts and lower courts, regional and local languages need to be given priority,” Rijiju said at the inaugural session of the 18th All India Legal Services Authority in Jaipur.
