By India Today Web Desk: Former India head coach Anil Kumble wants the Board of Control for Cricket in India to allow its young players to participate in different T20 leagues across the world. Since the advent of the Indian Premier League, many countries have their own T20 franchise leagues that have seen unprecedented success. Kumble is of the opinion that the players should be allowed to gain exposure and experience before the 2024 World Cup to be held in the West Indies and the United States.
As things stand, while the overseas players are welcomed in the IPL, the BCCI doesn’t allow any active Indian cricketer to participate in the foreign leagues.
“I think exposure certainly helps. We have seen that with the kind of development that it has had on Indian cricket. For example, the IPL, where overseas players come in and the kind of changes we’ve had in Indian cricket has certainly helped,” Kumble was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“In terms of giving an opportunity to a young player to go overseas and have a crack, then why not?” Kumble questioned.
“I think it’s important that you need to have everything that you need to do that come 2024, you are well prepared to take on a World Cup event,” the former India captain concluded on the matter.
India were knocked out of the T20 World Cup on Thursday, 10 November by England after succumbing to a huge defeat by 10 wickets. England captain Jos Buttler and opener Alex Hales combined to put up a rapid partnership of 170 runs in just 16 overs to knock India out of the tournament. The exit marked yet another failure for India in the ICC tournaments, one that they have not won since 2013 Champions Trophy.
