By India Today Web Desk: Anil Kumble has claimed that England’s Sam Curran will find it challenging to bowl at India’s Suryakumar Yadav when both teams collide in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup on Thursday.
Yadav and Curran have been in sublime form for their respective teams in the tournament and find themselves in top positions on the batters and bowlers charts.
Speaking on Cricinfo’s T20 Time: Out, Kumble said that Curran will find it challenging bowling at Yadav as we have seen all the bowlers struggle against him in the tournament.
While the former India coach did suggest that the Indian batter will also find the left-arm pacer challenging given his angle and trajectory at which he bowls, Kumble still fancied Yadav to win the player battle against Curran on Thursday. He also commented that Yadav has found a way to put pressure back on the bowler and get to a strong strike-rate.
“I think he will definitely find it challenging bowling at Surya. We have seen every bowler struggle to bowl at Surya. He is amazing. The way he sort of changes his game depending on where the gaps are. He sort of makes up his mind by saying that ‘ok, this is going there’.”
“But they could be a challenge for Surya as well because of the angle at which Sam Curran bowls and also the trajectory. He is pretty short and it is not going to be easy to get the bounce for someone like Sam Curran. But having said that, Surya has found a way of managing to put pressure back on the bowler and getting to that amazing strike rate. So I think Surya will fancy and Sam Curran will be under pressure for sure,” said Kumble.
England captain Jos Buttler also revealed his admiration for Yadav during the pre-match press conference and hailed the 32-year-old as the batter of the tournament in this year’s edition of the T20 World Cup.
“I think he’s someone who has probably been the batter of the tournament so far in terms of the way you want to watch someone go about it. I think his biggest strength looks to be the amount of freedom he plays with. I think he’s obviously got all the shots but he allows himself to play all the shots as well. He’s got a very free mindset from what I can see. But as with any batter in the world, it takes one chance to create a wicket. We desperately need to find a way to do that and you know, it’s a big miss to just think about him. I think they have some other excellent players as well,” said Buttler.
